Overview
This in-residence workshop has been designed for architecture and civil engineering faculty, to equip them with the tools and approaches necessary to impart High Performance Building (HPB) concepts and competencies to their students.
The workshop will foster critical dialogues, debates and perspective-sharing to encourage collective transformation in architectural pedagogy.
What will you learn?
The workshop will explore the intersection of climate justice, built space and architecture education, and situate HPBs and Net Zero design within this nexus.
Covering a mix of theoretical frameworks and technical topics, the workshop will offer insights into:
- Building heat transfer principles, thermal comfort, and sustainable cooling technologies
- Energy Efficiency, Resource Management, and Sustainable Materials
- Building Design Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment
- Critical evaluation of the construction economy
- Understanding of informality in built spaces
The workshop will also include demonstration of classroom learning aids, lesson planning activities, and an HPB audit visit.

What are HPBs?
HPBs are highly resource-efficient and cost-effective buildings, using Factor 2 (half) to Factor 4 (one-fourth) of the energy and water specified by current Indian Codes. HPBs also meet national standards for indoor air quality, waste management, and resilience.
